What is the general data protection regulation GDPR
General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the new European Union data protection law that takes effect on May 25, 2018. It sets out data protection law that takes effect on May 25, 2018. It sets out businesses’ responsibilities in relation to the personal data they collect and hold, it also governs the processes businesses use for managing that personal data.
Who will GDPR affect?
GDPR will affect all businesses (including sole traders) who hold or process the personal data of people in EU Member States. There are potential fines of up to 4% annual global turnover or €20m, whichever is greater, for businesses that don’t comply.
What is Sage doing to prepare for GDPR?
Sage is actively working on its General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR, strategy and has a project team who are mobilized and focusing on Sage’s strategy and implementation of GDPR, which is endorsed by the Sage Board.
In addition, Sage has robust governance procedures in place to manage the implementation of GDPR including a Data Governance Committee which is comprised of stakeholders from across the full Sage business to ensure all areas of the Sage business will be well prepared for GDPR from the date of enforcement in May 2018.
